  3. Well, nothing much to say here. Drag the Dvorak - lc file onto
  4. your system folder. When it asks to install it into your system
  5. just say yes. ;-)

  7. Next, open your keyboard control panel and select "Dvorak - lc".
  8. If you happen to have a keyboard menu in your menu bar, you can
  9. select it that way.

  11. What it does is re-map your keyboard, when the caps-lock key is
  12. down and you press and hold either shift key and instead of capital
  13. letters you'll get lowercase. Please note you will still get normal
  14. shifted punctuation, only the letters are different. (To get a better
  15. idea, try looking at the layout through the Keycaps utility.) And if
  16. you haven't guessed by now, this happens to be a Dvorak layout, not
  17. your standard Qwerty layout. If you don't know what it is, try 
  18. checking out Keycaps after you switch to it. Also note, the command
  19. keys have not been modified but remain the standard Qwerty layout,
  20. this was done for two reasons, first I didn't feel like changing those
  21. too and second, I thought it made more sense since some programs pick
  22. certain keys for a reason. If you would rather have the command keys
  23. moved to the Dvorak letters, let me know, if I get enough demand I'll
  24. also release a file with that layout.

  26. If you don't like the layout, then double-click on your System suitcase
  27. and look for the keyboard layout named Dvorak - lc. Drag it to the trash
  28. and close your System.

  30. It only uses about 2.5k of disk space, so don't there shouldn't be any
  31. problems with space. It also requires System 7 (and above I'd guess)
  32. and should work on any current Macintosh with any current keyboard.
  33. I'd guess it works with a PPC, but until someone buys me one I can't
  34. say for sure. (If you want to check and let me know, please do.) Since
  35. this isn't much more than an altered KCHR resource I'd guess it should
  36. work without much of a problem.

  38. I created the layout because I saw this on the PC and thought it would
  39. be useful on my Mac. I'm distributing it because I thought I'd share
  40. it with you all. :-) BTW, I've seen an Extension which does basically
  41. the same thing. My KCHR doesn't take any extra memory and doesn't
  42. screw around with crazy things Extensions tend to do. I also think this
  43. is the better way to do this.

  48. layout. :-( If you don't like to send postcards, send me some

  74. downloading this file other than normal connect & user charges.
